Head of Family Law and Direct Access

Rona Neathey was called to the Bar by the Honorable Society of the Inner Temple in 1990. She has since practiced in all aspects of family law and regularly represents clients on a direct access client basis

As a specialist family barrister with 25 years experience Rona is instructed because of her professional but approachable, compassionate and friendly manner, as well as for her fearless regard for her client’s best interests demonstrated in her style of advocacy and the results she achieves for them. She appears frequently in complex and sensitive cases involving children and vulnerable parents (those who are learning disabled or have mental health issues or addiction issues-Court of Protection) and has represented all parties including the children themselves, guardians, grandparents, local authorities and the Official Solicitor.

Rona’s experience enables her to undertake civil work, this she does regularly as well as conducting family cases involving immigration and/or housing law issues consequently representing both Claimants and Defendants, tenants and Landlords.

Private Law – Children Act- Foreign Element Cases

Rona regularly appears in all levels of the Family court and has conducted a number of cases as Appellant in the Court of Appeal, she regularly represents all types of clients across all social classes. Acting for parents and other family members in difficult contested matters she is regularly instructed to represent families in applications for Wardship (including Child Abduction matters) and Special Guardianship Orders, as well as in in cases where Permission to remove the children abroad, whether permanently or temporarily, including proceedings involving the recovery of children from both in and outside those countries and whether or not those countries are party to the Hague Convention or other reciprocal agreements.

Public Law – Care and Adoption

Rona represents parents, children instructing their own solicitor, children through their appointed guardian, interested parties and from time to time local authorities. She has been involved in cases involving all aspects of alleged significant harm to children. She regularly cross-examines the plethora of expert witnesses and is appropriately sensitive when dealing with vulnerable clients, litigants in person and witnesses.

Matrimonial Finance and TOLATA

Rona’s matrimonial finance practice includes the representation of husbands, wives, interveners and cohabitees at all stages of the ancillary relief process from before the FDA (seeking freezing Orders and Injunctions) to Final Hearing.

Housing Law

All areas; Particularly unlawful evictions, possession proceedings, harassment matters including anti social behaviour applications.

 

VOLUNTARY WORK AT 2 Kings Bench Walk:

It is 2 KBW’s policy to support Justice both inside and outside the court and that is why Rona has throughout her 25 year career (and continuing) undertaken voluntary advice work; she gives talks, presentations and workshops to the wider community- including all ethnic minority communities- on Family Law generally (and Domestic Violence) whilst happily providing assistance Pro-Bono.

 

Interests

Rona has an intense love of wildlife, plants and animals. She enjoys spending time with nature and walking with her dogs.
She is the proud aunt of 13 children and great aunt to even more !!!! Miss Neathey happily provides free initial advice by telephone thereby helping clients to think of alternative methods to litigation.
